Vice President of the European Parliament Supports Non-violent movement of Tibet

Dharamshala: European Parliament (EP) Vice President Mr. Edward McMillan-Scott at a meeting with a Tibetan Parliamentary delegation on 16th November in the EP headquarters in Brussels expressed support to the non-violent movement of the Tibetan people and expressed his outrages at the change of Britain Policy with regard to Tibet. Last year on 29 October, Britain announced that they regarded Tibet as a part of China. Prior to that they recognized China of having suzerainty over Tibet.

The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation updated the Chair Person of the Human Rights Committee of the EP on the current human rights situation in Tibet. This meeting is considered significant with respect to the EU-China Summit to be held on 30th November and the EP hearing on Tibet which is scheduled for, in the first week of December 2009.

EP Inter Parliamentary Group for Tibet President Mr.Thomas Mann received the Tibetan delegation members - Gyari Dolma, Deputy speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile and the Members of Parliament- Geshey Beri Jigmey, Geshey Monlam Tharchin, Lopon Sonam Tenphel, Geshey Tse Ringpo and Tsering Youdon.

The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation en route to Rome for the 5th World Parliamentarians' Convention on Tibet was in Paris, the capital of France. On 12th November, the delegation was received at the French House of Deputies, by Lionel Luca, President of the Tibet Support group in the Lower House and by Jean Francois Humbert, President of the Tibet Support group in the Senate in their respective Chambers. The delegation briefed " Reporters without Borders " a Paris-based international non-governmental organization that advocates freedom of the press, and the Amnesty International on the Human Right issues.The delegation made urgent appeals to help to improve condition of Tibetans inside Tibet.

The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation expressed gratitude towards the Tibet Support Groups in France for their unwavering support. During the official visit, besides meeting with the government officials and parliamentarians, Tibetan parliamentarians also met with the Tibetan communities in France and Belgium.

The Programmes were coordinated by the office of Tibet based in Brussels, Belgium.
